Thief steals money from home of 85-year-old woman

A thief stole cash from the home of an 85-year-old woman.

The victim found a man had gone into the kitchen of her home on The Ridgeway, Knottingley, at around 5pm on Sunday, February 1.

He asked her if she needed any work carrying out on the house before going into the living room.

He came back out as the victim tried to follow him before he left the house with the money he had taken from the living room.

DC Andrew Mortby, of Wakefield CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the offence which has understandably left the victim quite shaken.

“I am aware that on hearing what happened her neighbours have rallied round to help her and I want to thank them for the wonderful community spirit they have shown to the victim who is clearly very well thought of.”

The suspect was aged in his mid 40s, around 5ft 6ins tall, slim and clean shaven. He was wearing dark clothing.

DC Mortby said: “We are focussed on catching this individual and I would ask anyone who saw suspicious behaviour outside the property or who may know who is responsible to contact Wakefield CID on 101.
