Fire crews were called to Kinsley House Crescent just before 4am to reports of a house fire. They found three flats were alight, while a fourth flat had become heavily smoke logged. A woman was trapped inside one of the properties and was rescued by firefighters. She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. A man and a woman had already managed to escape through a window.

While the crews were dealing with the flat fire, they received a second call about a car being alight at a different place on the same street. Shortly after this call, a third call was received about the shed fire.

Crews from Hemsworth, South Elmsall, Pontefract and Featherstone attended the three incidents.

Watch commander Mark Faulkner, from South Elmsall Fire Station, said: “The three incidents were all in different areas on the same street. They are under investigation by the police.

“The car was completely destroyed and the shed was just a shell. The gas board also attended as there was a gas meter in the outbuilding.”

Insp Geoff Carter, from the south east neighbourhood police team, said: “We will be working alongside our colleagues from the fire service to investigate the cause of the three incidents. Officers are at the scene now.”
