The company offers more than 11,000 everyday products to the building trade as well as individual customers.

The new store - at Unit 24 on Monckton Road Trading Estate, Monckton Road - will be open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sundays.

Branch manager Wendy Martin said: “It’s great to open our very first branch in Wakefield and to introduce ourselves to the trade locally. We’re particularly proud to have opened just as we received the Which? Retailer of the Year Award 2016, recognising that we go the furthest to satisfy our customers. The team here really does pride itself on making it quick and easy for our customers to get their trade supplies when they need them by calling in or using our click and collect service. We are looking forward to lending a hand to the tradespeople of Wakefield with our honest advice and the best products for the jobs they have.”

Toolstation now has more than 230 branches, including stores in Barnsley, Bradford, Doncaster, Elland Road and Huddersfield. The Wakefield branch offers a large range of products, including essentials such as screws, cables, sealants, plumbing fittings and power tools as well as leading branded products such as Makita, Stanley, Milwaukee and Crown Paints.
