Top acts perform at summer festival

It was not difficult to understand why. Festival Internacional de Benicàssim combines great weather, great crowds and great bands topping the bill at the music event at the picturesque beach resort.

The thousands of Brits at the four-day music extravaganza makes it feel as though we are at Glastonbury all over again – but with clear blue skies and tropical heat.

The Arctic Monkeys headlined on Saturday night and opened with their new single, Do I Wanna Know?

They played songs from each of their four albums – but tracks from their debut record, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not – got the best reactions from the crowd. Thousands sang their hearts out to Dancing Shoes and I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor.

Fan-favourite Mardy Bum was played acoustically and not as fast as the original album track – encouraging fans to slow down the pace for just a few minutes. The lads gave everyone a taste of their new album in the penultimate track, Mad Sounds.

Bastille confirmed their growing popularity on the Trident stage - with thousands racing over to watch their set.

Their musical talents explained why. Each member performed using a variety of instruments, including their trademark drums.

Having released only one album, it was clear fans had taken each and every song to heart as everyone knew the lyrics to Things We Lost In The Fire, Laura Palmer, Bad Blood, and crowd favourite, Pompeii.

Other headliners at the festival were The Killers who were on top form and – surprisingly – didn’t keep fans waiting long for their most famous song, by opening their set with Mr Brightside.

Despite having played their most popular songs - including Jenny Was A Friend of Mine, Human, and Somebody Told Me - possibly hundreds of times over the years, each seemed like brand new tracks as they were played with so much enthusiasm.

Frontman Brandon Flowers’ genuine happiness for performing there was infectious. He had a constant smile on his face and was clear he was enjoying performing as much as fans were to watch.

He wooed fans in their home country by speaking Spanish in between songs.

Their set was dynamic and rightly earned their place as headliner of the last night.

When You Were Young was the final song and rain for the first and only time of the four days marked the end of the festival - along with an array of fireworks above the main stage.

Queens of the Stone Age, Beady Eye, Johnny Marr, Kaiser Chiefs, and Jake Bugg were just a few more of the top line up that graced one of the festival’s three stages.

While waiting for the Eufest bus back to the airport the following morning, a sea of tired yet happy faces showed just how much everyone had enjoyed the festival in the sun.
