'20 minute old' Lamborghini wrecked in M1 crash at Wakefield

A brand new Lamborghini has been wrecked in a crash on the M1 near Wakefield, just '20 minutes' after it was purchased.

The crash happened just after 1pm today (Wednesday) on the southbound carriageway between Junction 40 at Flushdyke and Junction 39 at Durkar.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the Lamborghini and a van had collided, leaving the van driver with head injuries which are not believed to be serious.

PC Richard Whiteley, of West Yorkshire Police, tweeted a picture of the damage to the sports car - which is believed to be worth around £200,000.

PC Whiteley said: "It’s only a car! But on this occasion a 20-minute-old brand new Lamborghini that stopped due mechanical failure in lane three, then hit from behind [by a vehicle] #couldhavecried"

The crash caused major delays on the southbound carriageway which was closed for the vehicles to be recovered.

All lanes were reopened by 2.50pm.
