Deer killed on M1 at rush hour

A deer was killed after it collided with a car in the fast lane of the M1 during rush hour this morning (Friday).

The animal collided with a grey Citreon at about 8.50am just after Woolley Edge services on the northbound stretch between Junctions 38 and 39 at Wakefield.

A police spokesman said damage was caused to the car’s door but the 41-year-old driver was able to continue his journey afterwards.

Police received several reports from concerned motorists about the stricken deer, which later died.

The spokesman said the deceased deer was retrieved from the carriageway at 9.20am and traffic was “released”.
