The £120m Highways Agency project aims to reduce congestion and increase capacity between junction 39 at Durkar and junction 42 at Lofthouse.

As part of the works, the southbound carriageway will be closed between junction 41 at Carr Gate and junction 40 at Ossett overnight on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

All of the closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place.

The ‘managed motorway’ project will see hard shoulders become permanent lanes in both directions, between junction 39 at Durkar and junction 42 at Lofthouse.

Speed limits will also be varied depending on the amount of traffic, and will be displayed on overhead signs and on verges.
