Firefighters from Wakefield, Castleford, Normanton and Rothwell attended the fire and used four breathing apparatus, hose reels and positive pressure ventilation to extinguish the fire, which covered half the pub.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said they are not treating it as suspicious.

Police closed surrounding roads for three hours whilst the fire was extinguished and to allow the woman to be rescued.

Firefighters left the scene at 7pm.
