Train line between Wakefield and Doncaster expected to re-open at 4pm

Trains between Wakefield and Doncaster have been halted and replaced with buses after the line was damaged by falling debris.

Rail services in both directions were replaced with buses earlier today because of an obstruction on the track near South Elmsall.

Trains through to and from Leeds through Wakefield, Sandal and Agbrigg, Fitzwilliam, South Elmsall, Adwick, Bentley and Doncaster were affected.

A Network Rail spokeswoman said: “At 10.45am this morning we had a report of debris falling from an overbridge between Doncaster and Wakefield.

“This meant we had to close the lines while engineers went on site to assess the damage.

“They are working to make the necessary repairs and we will reopen the line as soon as it is safe to do so. Every effort will be made to get trains back on the line for rush hour services.”

East Coast Trains said the line was estimated to re-open at 4pm today.
