Travel delays as strong winds batter the district

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Yorkshire as 50mph winds batter the district.

The strong winds are affecting road and rail travel.

Traffic is slow on the M62 and M1 motorways.

The extreme weather is also disrupting train travel. Trains are delayed at Wakefield Westgate because debris has blown onto overhead lines.

An amber warning means you need to be prepared to change your plans and protect yourself, your family and the community.

The wind is expected to settle by around 3pm this afternoon.
