Two men arrested after robbers threaten shop workers with knife and baseball bat

Police have arrested two men after armed masked robbers allegedly threatened staff at two convenience stores.

Two men entered a shop on Ackworth Road, Featherstone, at about 8.30pm on Friday, February 12.

They allegedly threatened the shopkeeper with a knife and a baseball bat before taking cash and cigarettes.

Two days later, at around 2.15pm on Sunday, February 14, two men entered a convenience store on Cherry Tree Drive, Walton.

They allegedly threatened staff with a knife and a baseball bat before taking the till.

The men then escaped in a small grey or silver coloured vehicle. No one was hurt in the robberies.

A 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old, both from Pontefract, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with both offences. Both men are in custody.

Det Insp Tim Hunt, of Wakefield CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into both of these offences and we are appealing for witnesses and information.”
