Two men who died after the car they were travelling in crashed into a lamppost in Featherstone have been named by police.
Luke Spragg, 25, and Callum Fretwell, 23, both from Featherstone, were in an orange Ford Focus ST when they crashed at the junction of Wakefield Road and Common Side Lane at around 11.50pm on Friday, February 13.
Police said the car left the road at the junction before crashing into a lamppost and then a tree.
Dozens of floral tributes have been left at the scene, including one which read: “RIP Lads. Fev won’t be the same!”
West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) has appealed for anyone who saw the incident to get in touch.
Sgt Ann Drury, from MCET, said: “Enquiries remain ongoing into what has clearly been a significant incident on the district’s roads which has sadly resulted in two fatalities.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision itself and anyone who saw the vehicle and the manner in which it was being driven prior to the collision.
“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
