Unity Works has secured its first business tenant ahead of its opening later this year.

Wakefield’s historic Unity Hall, on Westgate, is being redeveloped into a music venue and conference centre with office space for businesses.

There will also be a gallery, cafe and bar and function room.

Statement - a design, digital and marketing agency - will move into the building once it opens.

The community cooperative responsible for the venture is expecting the building to be fully let before it opens later this year.

Mark Taylor, Unity Works managing director, said: “Since we launched, interest in Unity Works’ offices has been very encouraging and we expect to make further announcements on new leases shortly.

“Meanwhile, the refurbishment programme continues to schedule and when Unity Works formally opens, Wakefield will have access to one of the most vibrant entertainment, leisure and work space destinations in West Yorkshire.”

A programme of events is expected to be announced soon.

Unity Hall will cater for major national conferencing as well as local events and the gallery area will offer exhibition space for local artists and small indie retailers. Visit www.unityworks.co.uk for more information.
