A burst water main left thousands of homes without water and caused lengthy delays for motorists this morning (Friday).
Denby Dale Road remains closed heading out of the city at the junction with Calder Island Way.
Yorkshire Water technical engineers remain at the scene dealing with the incident.
There are also lengthy delays heading into the city.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: “We would like to apologise for the water pipe burst at Denby Dale Road that occurred this morning at 5.45am due to a mains failure. Our technical engineers are working hard to resolve the problem and normal water supply is now slowly returning to the 3,500 homes in the area that have been affected.
“We are also working closely with the Highways Agency to repair damage caused to the A636. We expect all water supplies to be back up and running very soon.”
