UPDATE - Gunshot fired in home in Normanton

Armed police were called to Normanton last night (Thursday).

Five men and four women went into a property on Queensway at around 10.10pm last night (Thursday).

A firearm was discharged during the incident which caused damage to the house.

Detectives believe the disturbance could be linked to an earlier incident in Portobello where a van was damaged by another vehicle.

Det Insp Tim Hunt, of Wakefield CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into both incidents today and we are continuing to make active enquiries to trace persons in connection with the firearms discharge.

“I would like to reassure residents that incidents such as these are very rare in the Wakefield area.

“Anyone who saw the firearms incident on Queensway and witnessed what took place or has information about the domestic incident in Portobello is asked to contact Wakefield CID on 101.

“Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”

A 31-year-old woman and three men aged 24, 23 and 24 have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in connection with the disturbance on Queensway.

A 33-year-old Normanton man has been arrested in connection with the Portobello domestic incident.

All five suspects remain in custody.
