UPDATE: One lane re-opens westbound on M62 following multi-vehicle accident

One lane has re-opened on the M62 westbound following a serious accident that closed the motorway in both directions.

The incident involving two HGVs, a van and a car, happened at around 5.20am.

One person had to be cut free from a car by firefighters, and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The M62 is currently closed between junctions 30 and 31 eastbound. The westbound carriageway is also closed between junctions 32 and 31, although one lane has now reopened.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said officers are working to get a second lane open as soon as possible, but it is anticipated that the eastbound carriageway will remain closed for some time while vehicles are recovered and an oil spill cleared.

Resurfacing work may also need to be carried out on any damaged parts of the carriageway.
