One person was trapped in a car and was taken to hospital by ambulance after being freed by firefighter. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The M62 remains closed between junctions 30 and 31 eastbound, and junctions 32 and 31 westbound.

One of the HGVs collided with the central reservation and a police spokesman said drivers should expect significant disruption into the morning rush hour, as the larger vehicles are recovered. A large oil spill also has to be dealt with.
