UPDATE: West Yorkshire men arrested by counter terrorism police released on bail

Two men from Dewsbury arrested by counter terrorism police yesterday morning (Wednesday) have been bailed.

Officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit arrested the 33-year-old and 43-year-old along with three others from South and West Yorkshire as part of an ongoing investigation into a purported Syrian aid charity.

The men were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

Also arrested were a 32-year-old man and a 53-year-old man from Halifax, and a 38-year-old man from Sheffield.

The five were taken to police stations in South and West Yorkshire for questioning before being bailed.

Six properties and a business in South and West Yorkshire were also searched as part of the investigation.

They included two homes and a business in the Savile Town area of Dewsbury.

The North East Counter Terrorism Unit is leading this investigation and will be supported by the Charity Commission.
