UPDATED: Man detained following incident at Pontefract Railway Station

Police have detained a man under the Mental Health Act following reports that a person was hit by a train between Pontefract Tanshelf and Knottingley Railway Stations this morning (Monday).

The British Transport Police were called at 7am after a man was spotted near the line. The Express understands nobody was hit.

Commuters faced rush hour delays as trains were halted between Pontefract and Knottingley, Leeds and Wakefield Kirkgate while the incident was investigated.

A spokesman for the BTP said: “Our officers were called to Pontefract Railway Station to reports a man had been seen near the line.

“Colleagues from West Yorkshire Police attended the scene and the man was detained under the Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.”
