JOB losses, an increase in the price of school dinners and a reduction in some bin collections have been announced by Wakefield Council as part of its cuts in public spending.

Upto 1,700 jobs could go during the next four years as part of the council’s need to save £67m by 2015.

The price of school meals will also increase by 20p and collections of garden waste bins will now become monthly as part of the savings ordered by the government.

The announcement was made ahead of next week’s cabinet meeting to agree the council’s budget.
