Crews were called to Harewood Road in Wakefield on Tuesday evening, shortly before 5.30pm after smoke began billowing from an open downstairs window.

Nobody was in the property at the time.

Eye witness Mark Vernon, who took video footage of the blaze, said with the door being locked the crews were forced to use a chainsaw on the door to gain access.

They were able to bring the blaze under control using a hosepipe.

Mr Vernon said: "There was lots of smoke and that's probably why the emergency services were there that quick when his neighbours called them."
