The keys to one of the city’s most cherished landmarks have been handed over to a community group set to transform it into a music venue.
Unity Hall will be brought back into public use after a 999-year lease was signed on the derelict building.
The keys were given to community co-operative Unity Hall Wakefield Ltd, which has raised £4m to restore the grade-II listed building.
The restored building is set to house a 600-seater music venue with offices, exhibition space and conference facilities.
