Want to hear your favourite hymns sung at Wakefield Cathedral?
Well forget Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow trying to persuade you to vote on ITV’s X Factor - the public vote everyone is talking about is ‘hymn factor’.
Wakefield Cathedral has asked people to vote for their favourite hymns as it prepares to host a week-long community event called Come On In.
Ballot boxes have sprung up around the city–including at the Express office on the Bullring–asking people to vote for their top 10 favourites out of a total of 25.
They will be performed at a Songs Of Praise-style event at the cathedral next month during Come On In.
And here is just a taster of some of the hymns being sung in rehearsals by the Wakefield Cathedral Girl’s choir to help you choose your favourite.
The Dean of Wakefield, the Very Rev Jonathan Greener said:”This is a week of welcome, a week of sharing our building, our life and our faith with the people of Wakefield and beyond.”
As part of Come On In, there will be free activities at the cathedral including breakfasts, cream teas, craft events and services.
The cathedral featured on BBC’s Songs Of Praise in April and will appear again next month in the new series of the popular Sunday evening show.
The top 10 favourite hymns will be sung at the Come On In event at 6pm on Sunday, November 3.
