Seaside treats including a candy floss stall, Pierrot clown, face painting and hook-a-duck will be on offer in Trinity Walk as well as a workshop and balloon giveaways.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “We are getting ready to put on a great event this summer with so much fun and enjoyable things happening at this year’s Seaside in the City for all the family.

“We may be far from the coast but we can still bring the excitement of the seaside to the city.”

Two artists will make giant sand sculptures on the upper floor of the Ridings shopping centre, where there will also be a deckchair, seaside-themed props and peep through photo boards.

Vicky Clapham, marketing manager at The Ridings shopping centre said: “Last year’s Seaside in the City was a fantastic event, so we were keen to join in the celebrations again by bringing much loved elements of the seaside into the centre.

“We have no doubt that the sand sculpture artists will be making some fantastic creations; we can’t wait to see what they come up with.”

There will also be face painting and seaside craft activities at Wakefield Market Hall on Saturday.

The seaside event will take place from 10am until 5pm on tomorrow and from 10m until 4pm on Sunday. For more information visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/seasideinthecity
