Wakefield Beer Festival is moving back to its old time slot in the ale calendar.
The CAMRA festival, which has been in November for the past few years, is going back to its traditional time slot of mid October.
The event will be held at The Space, on Waldorf Way, from October 15 to 17.
Wakefield CAMRA used to host its festivals at Wakefield Town Hall around the same date.
It’s also the 25th anniversary of the first Wakefield Camra beer festival, which was held at the town hall in 1991.
Our archive picture, right, shows Maureen Waller and Red Shed president George Denton admiring the festival ale at the town hall back in 2000.
It’s also a special time for the Wakefield branch as they are celebrating their 40th anniversary.
Wakefield CAMRA publicity officer Bob Wallis said: “For our 25th festival we’ve based our poster on the first one. And and now the tickets for Friday night session have gone on sale.
“They were launched at an event hosted last month by Bier Huis, Ossett, the sponsors of the tickets.
“There was a guest appearance by Sam Parker, of one of West Yorkshire’s newest local micro breweries, Whippet Brewing Co.”
Whippet will also brew a beer for the festival and will dedicate it to CAMRA stalwart Brian Cavell who sadly passed away in August. He was a familiar sight behind the bar at the beer festival. More details can be found at www.wakefieldcamra.org.uk/festival.
