Wakefield Council’s cabinet will meet at The Hepworth Wakefield art gallery today (Tuesday, September 22).

People can ask questions and meet the councillors at the centre on Gallery Walk, Wakefield, from 10.30am

The session is part of the council’s Cabinet On Tour programme, which aims to give people a new way to engage with the council.

At the meeting, councillors will discuss plans for a new £2.9m cycleway and walking route linking Castleford and Wakefield.

They are also expected to commission an independent reporter into whether a new multi-million pound leisure centre in Pontefract Park to replace exisiting facilities in Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley is feasible.

Council leader Peter Box said: “All of our cabinet meetings are held in public. We’ve been touring the district to make it easier for more people to attend and engage with their elected members.

“Our previous Cabinet on Tour events have been well attended in Castleford Pontefract and South Elmsall, giving more people across the district a chance to ask us questions.

“I encourage residents to come along and take part and at the same time take advantage of visiting the fantastic Gallery we have here in the district.”

Jane Marriott, deputy director at The Hepworth Wakefield, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the next Cabinet on Tour at The Hepworth Wakefield.

“This is a great initiative and I very much look forward to welcoming people into the gallery. If you’ve never been to The Hepworth Wakefield it’s a great chance to see what we offer and our wonderful gallery spaces.”
