A CHEF whose takeaway and diner venture proved a success is celebrating 15 years in business.

Abdul Ghafoor’s food proved popular after he launched his first takeaway on Broadway, Lupset, in 1997.

Using authentic Indian ingredients and inventive new dishes, he experienced a decade of growth in the business and invested in a second Abdul’s Takeaway and Diner on Southgate, Pontefract, in 2005.

And despite the economic downturn, the business has maintained a steady turnover thanks to an established customer base.

Mr Ghafoor said he was inspired to become a chef by his late mother Saira Begum.

He said: “When I started the business I was passionate about food. I took inspiration from my mum and learnt how to cook properly, using complementary flavours and spices.

“In time I built up a credible reputation and recognised the need for something which sits in-between a restaurant and takeaway. We have worked hard to build the business and to offer our customers a real taste of India.”
