A BIG thank you to everyone who entered the Wakefield District Business Awards.

We heard from a broad range of the Wakefield district’s finest business - from small start-ups to industrial estate factories and major multinationals.

Judges have drawn up their shortlist of nominees who will be in the running for a prize at a glittering a awards ceremony at the Cedar Court Hotel in Wakefield, on Tuesday, June 26.

Express editor Mark Bradley said: “Despite the tough economic climate, the standard of entries was high this year and the judges had a tough time choosing between them.

“I think this demonstrates the resilience of companies in the district and their determination to succeed.

“The awards night promises to be an exciting climax to this year’s contest and a celebration of the district as a place to do business.

The awards are back for a second year to celebrate top businesses which flourish no matter what the financial environment throws at them.

This year’s contest follows the great success of 2011’s inaugural Wakefield District Business Awards, when entrants found out what a boost it was to be shortlisted or win one of the awards.

Once again, we have asked for members of staff to be nominated for Employee of the Year – the only category that will be voted for by readers of the Express. And you can cast your vote in next week’s Wakefield Express.

The winner will be announced on the night.

The awards event, one of the most prestigious black tie events in the district’s calendar, will be hosted by BBC Look North’s Clare Frisby,

The event has been made possible by our overall sponsor, Chadwick Lawrence Solicitors.

Tickets for the event at the Cedar Court Hotel, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, can be ordered by e-mailing andrewcrabtree@halifaxcourier.co.uk
