Wakefield film-maker to premiere new movie Stand Still

Film-maker Charles Young, who lives in Sandal and attended Kettlethorpe High School, was in Spain last summer when he started writing the film called Stand Still.

The Leeds College of Art student said that the quote plays a large part in the film.

He said: “The script I wrote went down very well with readers and they liked the idea of the film I proposed so suddenly it grew and gathered momentum from a picture that would have featured my friends as actors to something starring serious up and coming talent.”

The film started off as a student project but has since received funding due to it’s success.

Mr Young said: “The film follows the story of a guy called Jimmy Gavel who was very successful at a young age by opening high street auction houses but everything is not as it seems.

“His slightly dodgy dealings could well be his downfall for both him and his girlfriend Lydia Winter.”

Stand Still is supported by a musical score created by Sam Williams, a music student at Leeds College of Music.

The film was shot in Leeds and in Wakefield at The Greenhouse and Trinity Walk.

Mr Young said: “I was fortunate enough that we were able to shoot in offices, city centre bars, shopping centre loading yards and interesting streets at night which all contributed to a project that began as a little throw away experiment, but suddenly escalated to a point where I thought, hold on a minute, there’s no reason why I couldn’t make this quite big.”

The film is set to premiere at an invite-only red carpet event at the Everyman Cinema in Leeds today. Stand Still will also be available on DVD.
