Wakefield man sent back to jail over indecent images

David Jefferson, 62, was arrested after photographs of young girls were found on his phone when officers went to his home on Ivy Lane, Eastmoor, Wakefield, on August 10 this year.

Leeds Crown Court heard Jefferson was out of prison and subject to licence conditions for the rest of his life after being convicted of serious sexual offences in 2006.

Officers made the discovery as they carried out a routine check at his home

Jefferson immediately admitted responsibility for accessing the images.

He pleaded guilty to one offence of making indecent photographs of children. Mark McKone, mitigating, asked that Jefferson be given credit for his early guilty plea.

He said his client had been recalled to prison after his arrest and has remained in custody.

Recorder Tony Hawks imposed a four month sentence for the offence but warned Jefferson he would now remain in jail for much longer because of his repeated sexual offending.

He said: “You have plainly got a serious problem in relation to a predilection towards sexual offences with children.

He added: “It is going to be a matter for the parole board in due course to decide if and when and on precisely what conditions you can be released into the community.”

Jefferson was working as a security guard in 2006 when he showered gifts on a 12-year-old girl as he groomed her for sex.

A court heard how he “slowly but surely reeled her into his net” before he sexually assaulted her during a three-month relationship.

Jefferson, who had a previous conviction for having sex with a 15-year-old girl, was given an indeterminate sentence to protect the public and told he must serve a minimum of four years in custody.
