Wakefield raises cash for Children in Need

Youngsters and nurseries from across the district went dotty for Children in Need last week.

Babies and toddlers at New Life Preschool and Nursery, Wakefield, turned up in their pyjamas and enjoyed homemade buns in return for a £1 donation. The George Street preschool raised £66 for Children in Need, as well as £57 for the Royal British Legion with a red-themed dress code between Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Cloud 9 Playgroup, Ossett, raised £51.85 by getting youngsters to make a donation to have their faces painted and by selling homemade cakes.

Generous Wendy Shaw, from Ossett, made a Pudsey-themed tutu dress to sell on Facebook. When it failed to sell, she donated £20 out of her own pocket.

Pudsey Bear helped boost fundraising efforts at The Freeston Academy in Normanton. The charity’s mascot helped students with a bake sale and also sold official merchandise. The visit was arranged by Halifax Bank, which matched funding from the school. A non-uniform boosted the amount raised to £816.85.

Liz Ford, deputy principal, said: “Everybody’s joined in the fun for a wonderful cause and I’d like to thank the students, parents and staff for supporting us.

“I’d also like to thank the local Halifax in Normanton for arranging the visit by Pudsey and contributing to our fundraising total.”
