CHRISTMAS came early to the residents of Windy Bank in Hightown.
The estate’s community centre in Central Avenue was transformed into a winter wonderland as part of a community project run by the residents and Kirklees Council.
Father Christmas took pride of place in his specially decorated grotto where he met local children.
He was helped by his team of elves and gave out gifts as well as taking last minute orders for Christmas presents.
There was also lots of festive stalls selling mince pies, refreshments, Christmas cakes , cards, games and face painting.
The event was organised by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, Kirklees Council and volunteers from Windy Bank Tenants and Residents’ Association and Windy Bank Working Together Group.
As well as fun festive treat for the young, as well as the young at heart, the event was also designed to promote the centre as a community facility.
The centre is home to many community groups and activities such as the estate’s youth club, and events are also held during the school holidays.
