‘We are attracting the world’s best - Muse, Take That, Florence and the Machine and One Direction’

Litestructures, LS Live and university centre Backstage Academy have been based at the park off Langthwaite Road for several years.

But a £2.5m project has seen the site, now known as Production Park, expanded to include new production companies that provide staging, scenery and technical help for live music, sportand theatre events.

Marketing manager Rachel Wood said: “We have more than doubled the size of the site with new workshops, studios and office space.

“We have taken on 50 new people and as the site continues to expand throughout phase two, many more jobs will be created.”

In the past few months, companies at the site have helped Muse, Take That, Florence and the Machine and One Direction with stage productions. And they hope the park will attract more businesses and artists.

Ms Wood said: “The site is continuing to grow from the needs of the industry. People were saying they wanted a one stop shop where all the live events industry people could come together.

“That is what we have created and the biggest productions in the world are now starting to come to South Kirkby. We are now at the centre of live events in the UK.

“The site is also providing brilliant opportunities for our students at Backstage Academy. They are making contacts with people in the industry while working on real production projects.”

South Elmsall and South Kirkby councillor Michelle Collins said the expansion was a “great investment”. She said: “Not only will it will fetch businesses into our economy, it will showcase to the world the community that we live in and are all proud of.”
