Met office weather warning for thunderstorms and hailstone in Wakefield later today

The Met Office has warned of lightning storms, hailstones and possible power cuts later today.

A yellow weather warning for the thunderstorm comes into force from 4pm and is expected to last until midnight.

It warns to expect "some damage" to buildings from lightning strikes, as well as travel disruption.

Met Office forecast:

Today:

After a sunny morning cloud will increase, bringing a small risk of an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. However, most places will remain dry, while becoming hot and humid. Maximum temperature 34 °C.

Tonight:

Scattered showers or thunderstorms this evening, some possibly very heavy with hail and frequent lightning. Minimum temperature 16 °C.

Saturday:

Any patchy rain will die away, then sunny spells and a few light showers, but most places remain dry. Warm, with noticeably lower temperatures compared to Friday. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday sunny spells and isolated showers. Monday sunny spells and occasional showers. Tuesday fine and bright start then outbreaks of rain arriving.
