River Calder in Wakefield smashes record-high level during Storm Ciara

The river in Wakefield broke its record level high following the deluge caused by Storm Ciara over the weekend.

According to official statistics from the Environment agency, it peaked at 1.65 metres at 10.30pm on Sunday night, breaking the previous level set in December 2015 by three cm.

The levels were last recorded at 0.86 metres this morning, but a flood warning is still in place with more rain forecast.
