Weather warning for Wakefield as Storm Francis hits - but the Bank Holiday weekend looks to be brighter

Wind and rain warnings are in force for Wakefield this week as another named storm hits the UK, the Met Office has warned.

A deep area of low pressure will cross the country from tonight, bringing wind gusts of 60mph and potentially 70mph wind and heavy rain.

A yellow wind warning is in force until midday on Wednesday.

Largely dry with bright or sunny spells throughout the day. Feeling pleasant in the sunshine, with light winds. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Overnight will be largely dry with clear spells. However, cloud will increase from the west during the early hours, with rain and strengthening winds arriving by dawn. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloud and rain, locally heavy, will spread northeastwards across all parts during the day, accompanied by strong to gale force winds. Feeling cool in the wind and rain. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Wednesday to Friday:

Wet and windy weather clearing eastwards Wednesday, with gales at first. Turning chilly overnight. Cloudy with showery rain, locally heavy, on Thursday. Drier on Friday, but windy and rather cool.

Chief Meteorologist Andy Page, said:“The UK is in for another unseasonably wet and windy spell with Storm Francis arriving on Tuesday. There will be strong winds and heavy rain.

"A number of severe weather warnings have been issued and these warnings can be updated regularly so please keep up to date with the latest Met Office forecast.”

Storm Francis will clear to the East of the UK by Wednesday lunchtime, leaving a brighter and more settled outlook for the remainder of the day.

After a showery day on Friday the Bank Holiday weekend should bring sunshine to most parts for a time with scattered showers before further unsettled weather is expected to move in from Tuesday next week.
