A WAKEFIELD College graduate who launched a successful Muslim dating site was presented with a top business award at the House of Commons this week.
Adeem Younis, the man behind singlemuslim.com, received the Association of Colleges Gold Award from Lord Willis of Knaresborough on Wednesday,
Mr Younis, 30, launched the website after noticing many of his Muslim friends were struggling to meet marriage partners, while studying at Wakefield College from where he graduated in 1999.
More than half a million members have joined the site, which Mr Younis said had resulted in 10,000 marriages since its launch in 2000.
Mr Younis, of Field Gardens, Thornes, said: “Wakefield College has given me the best start in life. At college I learned the importance of believing in myself, and without the encouragement I received, I doubt I’d be where I am today.
“I will always value the support and guidance I had from my tutors every step of the way.”
Wakefield College principal Sam Wright said: “Adeem has shown determination to succeed in his many ventures.
“He is a shining example of the accomplishments our learners demonstrate and highlights the benefits that further education has on individuals.”
