Welly wanging and pie eating competition down on the farm

The agricultural competitions are part of the festival’s Axe Games tournament, ending with a pie eating challenge which will see competitors eat as many steak mince pies as they can in ten minutes.

For those feeling less competitive there are attractions and events running throughout the day in the festival’s main ring including vintage tractors, giant jo jingles and theatre performances.

In the mini ring, Midget the Fidget, a dancing dog will entertain crowds while the main ring will host a dog show.

New attractions for this year include Strawberries and Steam - entering the strawberry patch via traction engines and a music organ - and a children’s nursery rhyme fancy dress parade and competition in the main ring.

And all the regular favourites such as snail racing, diggerland, a snowzone and football factory will also feature at the event.

Farmer Copleys will also serve hog roast, burgers and hot dogs, ice cream and candy floss throughout the day.

Heather Copley said: “Every year we bring our free farm festival - a bit like a mini Yorkshire show - to thank the community for putting up with everything that goes on down on the farm throughout the year. It’s a great day out for all the family and this year it’s definitely going to be a lot bigger and better than ever before.”

The festival runs from 11am until 4pm at the Ravensknowle Farm, on Pontefract Road in Purston.
