What’s next for Voice star?

AFTER a “crazy” month of appearing on the new BBC One talent show The Voice, teenage singer Frances Wood’s time in the competition has come to an end.

Although the Wrenthorpe star failed to win a record deal through the show, she remains upbeat about recording her first album and returning to our television screens.

Frances, 18, was eliminated from the programme at the weekend after her live performance of club classic Show Me Love failed to secure her a place in the final eight of the competition.

She was one of four competitors from team Will.i.am to sing and her team mate Jaz Ellington received the most public votes and was sent automatically through.

Which left a tense Frances up against Joelle Moses and Tyler James for the final slot in the Black Eyed Peas rapper’s team.

Will.i.am, decided he would have an all-male team and chose Tyler as the other contestant going through.

Frances returned to her family home in Barnes Avenue this week and is preparing to concentrate on passing her A-level exams at Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts.

Talking about her exit from the show, Frances said: “I was gutted at first but it has given me great exposure and everyone has been supportive.

“It is sad to say I will not be doing the live shows any more as it has been a crazy few weeks and I have enjoyed all of it.

“But I am looking forward to a good rest and can’t wait to see everyone to say thank you for voting for me.”

The former Outwood Grange pupil made it from 28,000 acts to be one of the last 16 in the show, which includes coaches Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue.

And during Saturday’s appearance on The Voice Frances sang a medley of I Got A Woman, Gold Digger and Just Can’t Get Enough alongside Will.i.am, in front of 5.6 million viewers.

For the past two years she has been songwriting, busking, gigging and uploading her songs on to Youtube.

Before the show she was planning on going to university, but said that is now a second option.

She said: “I want to go straight into the music industry.

“I hope someone was watching and wants to take a chance on me as I am prepared to work hard and want to record an album.

“I also really want to go on Celebrity Juice with Keith Lemon and Loose Women with Jane McDonald, so we will see what happens.”

And Frances’ tip for the winner of the show? “I think Tyler has a lovely tone to his voice and could do well, but Leanne Mitchell is underrated.”
