Where there’s a Wilko....

Cake sales and dress up days have helped raise more than £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support during a year-long campaign at Wilkos in Castleford.

Staff have spent the last 12 months collecting donations from their generous customers through a variety of events.

Macmillan, the Carlton Street store’s regional charity of the year, provides support for local people affected by cancer.

The £3,000 donation could fund a nurse for around three weeks, allowing them to provide practical, emotional, medical and financial support to people living with cancer.

Gerry Newman, store manager, said: “What a fantastic year we’ve had raising money for Macmillan – we’ve proved that where there’s a Wilko, there’s a way. We were inspired to support Macmillan because it helps so many people in the community, and it’s been so rewarding.

“The whole team has had a lot of fun on our various fundraisers and everyone got right into the charitable spirit. We couldn’t have raised such a brilliant amount without the help of our loyal customers, who kindly reached into their pockets and gave whatever they could to help our charity of the year.”

Catriona Munn, partnership manager at Macmillan, said, “A huge thank you to all of the staff and customers at Wilko in Castleford for their fantastic enthusiasm and fundraising efforts.

“The incredible total the team raised will help Macmillan ensure that no one faces cancer alone. A big thank you to all of them.”
