Who should get the next Wakefield star?
That’s the question being asked by council chiefs as they consider nominations for the next famous name to be commemorated on the city’s pavements.
The Wakefield Star plaque scheme has so far immortalised 13 celebrities from across the district. These include 16th century explorer Sir Martin Frobisher, 19th century conservationist Charles Waterton, Wakefield Trinity legends Neil Fox and David Topliss, ‘kitchen sink’ era writer Stan Barstow, world-renowned sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, playwright John Godber, indie rockers The Cribs, Tour de France cyclist Barry Hoban and singer Jane McDonald.
