Woman rescued from submerged barge in Leeds canal

Police cordoned off an area of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal after a woman was rescued from the water overnight.

West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that a 33-year-old woman was pulled from the canal near Viaduct Road this morning just before 12.40am.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries but the cordon remains in place to establish how she ended up in the water.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene last night to rescue the woman, who was semi-submerged on top of an old sunken barge.
