Work to start on £60k upgrade to Allerton Bywater gas mains

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) will replace around 700m of metal gas mains on Leeds Road, Allerton Bywater.

The project will start on Monday, March 21 and is expected to last for five weeks.

Two-way traffic lights will be installed for two weeks from the junction of Leeds Road and Manor Park Avenue to the junction with Blands Avenue on Monday, March 21.

Three-way traffic lights will operate for two weeks at the junction of Main Street, Park Lane and Leeds Road on Monday, April 4.

And two-way traffic lights will be installed for two weeks at the junction of Blands Avenue and Leeds Road to the junction of Westfield Grove from Monday, April 18.

NGN construction services area manager Russ Oxley said: “We have been working closely with Leeds City Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption caused.”

Engineers will carry out the work Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. It is expected to affect bus services running in the area.

Mr Oxley said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works. We would like to thank you for your patience throughout these essential works.”
