On your bike! Grand Depart music fest
A three day festival to commemorate the Tour de France is to take place in Kirklees.
The Le Tour Fest is being held to mark Le Grand Depart, the first stage of the Tour De France, which changes location each year.
This year Le Grand Depart, is in Yorkshire on July 5 and 6.
Le Tour Fest is being organised by Donal O’Driscoll, who runs Heckmondwike’s Crown of Lights music events, and will take place in the 24 acre Lockwood Park, Huddersfield.
The Tour will pass the festival site at noon on Sunday July 6.
Donal said: “After four months’ planning and hard work, I’m delighted to be working closely with Lockwood Park and in particular Huddersfield RUFC and Lockwood Park Health and Fitness Club.
“They completely accept and are fully on board with what I’m trying to achieve for their venue in giving everyone who attends this three day event a very warm Yorkshire welcome and an unforgettable experience.
“We’re even extending the camping period to three days before and six days after the weekend itself to allow people from further afield the time to cycle the stages for themselves or just go out and explore this fantastic county.”
Appearing at the event will be ‘Man In The Hat’ Chris Martin from Staincliffe, Roger Davies from Brighouse, Ryan Spendlove from Ossett, Jade Helliwell from Batley and The Little Baby Cheeses from Leeds and Doncaster.
Footage of the cyclists on the Yorkshire Tour stages will be beamed onto a big screen.
Facilities will include bars, Wifi, showers, food, cash machines, camping for 2,000 people, luxuty camping facilities and secure lock ups for up to 2,000 bikes.
Tickets cost from £36 for the weekend.
