Your chance to be the editor

Next week the Express will embark on an innovative scheme to allow its readers to help edit their own local newspaper.

We have earmarked the edition of Friday June 7 to be put together with the assistance of all our loyal readers.

We will be asking you to contribute both your opinions and your material to ensure the paper fully reflects your views.

This is how it will work:

From Monday June 3 up until we go to press at 5pm on the Thursday, we will be running a live webchat service on our website.

As the week progresses our reporters will be posting the progress of all the stories they are working on for that week’s paper.

And using the Twitter hashtag #youaretheeditor you will be able to post your views on our stories, or add to them with your own suggestions.

Our newsdesk will be live on the site every lunchtime for an interactive session, and we’ll also be getting our Facebook community involved too.

And for those people not online, there will be another way you can be involved.

We will also set up a Readers’ Panel - a group of local people who will sit in on our news meeting and have an added input into how the newspaper is put together, and even what we cover on our front and back pages.

If you want to be considered for a place on this panel, please write to me at the address on page 2 , or email me at [email protected], explaining in no more than 50 words why you want to take part.

We’ll not only be listening to your contributions...we will be publishing them too.

We’ll put aside some space in that edition as Readers Pages - and we’ll be asking you to send us content to fill it.

It could be stories, points of view, photographs, pictures or musings of life today or yesteryear. It can be news or sport related - all we ask is that it has a local flavour to it.

If you want to take part, we need to hear from you by the close of play on Monday.

For anyone interested in what we do and how we do it, and if you think we could better reflect the local community then this is your chance to have your say.

We want as many of you to take part in this unique adventure as possible; we hope to hear from you soon.
