Litter is a £3.3m problem

We very much agree with the letter from J Finney in last week’s paper. Litter is a disgrace and something we have to spend £3.3m clearing up every year. In these difficult financial times we would rather invest this money in other areas, like services to protect our children or repairing roads.

Perhaps fast food companies could do more although they do remind people to be responsible with their litter and provide litter bins. But at the end of the day it comes down to the actions of individuals. Littering is an inexcusable blight on our environment and those responsible should be ashamed. We hope more people will take heed of the feelings expressed by J Finney and not leave rubbish for other people to clean up.
