Missed chance to show off city

As Victor Meldrew would have said “I don’t believe it!”.

It would appear that Wakefield’s stage start for the Tour de Yorkshire is going to be from the Hepworth gallery which is nearly as far from the city centre as possible!

What on earth are the organisers thinking about?

Surely some of the best bike handlers in the world could manage a start from outside the Town Hall across the Bullring and down Upper and Lower Kirkgate, thus showing off our city filled with hundreds of spectators.

Is it that the ‘elf and safety’ gurus have struck again or are the organisers not happy with the venue?

A wonderful opportunity for Wakefield to fully participate in this inaugural event seems to be going begging. Now think on!
