Postal collections in 1911

After noting the changes being made by Royal Mail, claiming to increase efficiency, while making dramatic changes to mail box collection times I came across an old diary of my dad’s-for 1911. Listed are times of collection from Wakefield’s mail boxes.

For example, from the box on Haddingley Hill, near Busy Corner, collections were at:9 am, 10am, 1 pm, 3.30 pm, 4 pm, 6.30 pm, 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm.

The price of a postage stamp for a letter was still one penny, as it had been since 1840.
