I am writing to inform you of my disgust at finding two stray dogs on separate occasions in the Wakefield area in the past week alone.
One dog, a boxer cross, was abandoned on Wednesday in a shocking condition, emaciated dehydrated and starving. The second dog, a husky, was also callously abandoned.
What is wrong with the people that do this abhorrent act in the first place?
Have they not got the common human decency to do the right thing and hand them in to either kennels or the police?
Sadly no-one seems to care these days. Maybe tougher penalties on people who do this may act as a deterrent to other thinking of doing the same.
Abandoning dogs is also a major problem and growing concern in other cities in the Yorkshire area but at the end of the day no-one forces you to have a dog or any animal for that matter.
Gandhi once said that the greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated, and after what I’ve witnessed in the last week it’s made me realise some people need to take a long hard look at themselves.
