A zombie movie made by youngsters affected by disability has been watched by more than 120,000 online viewers.

The film Kids V Zombies took the internet by storm after being made by young people who are helped by children’s disability charity Kids.

It has so far been watched by 121,366 people around the world after being posted on the internet video site Youtube last April.

Sam Grundy, regional fundraiser for Kids, based on Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, said: “It is unbelievable that the film has been seen by so many people. “I think it’s because when you see it you can tell the young people were having a great time filming it.”

The film was made by siblings of people with disabilities who get support from Kids, which helps around 1,000 families around the Wakefield district.

Ms Grundy said: “The film was produced on a tiny budget given to us by the National Lottery and was all about this group of young people exploring how their lives are different as they are all brothers and sisters with a disabled sibling.

“They all have added responsibilities at home.

“They often have a different kind of upbringing to other children and have to spend a lot of time in hospital with family members.”

Now Kids, which was set up in Wakefield three-and-half years ago, is seeking a sponsor to give financial backing for youngsters to produce another film.

Ms Grundy said: “We need a budget of around £5,000.

“We would again be looking to put the finished product on Youtube and hope to get more than 100,000 views, so it’s great publicity for a local sponsor.

“If a sponsor wanted to reach a lot of young people this is a very small amount of money, considering.”

Sponsors who could back the next film can contact Ms Grundy by e-mail to Samantha.Grundy@kids.org.uk or on 07771 907209.
